Federal District Court Blocks FTC Non-Compete Rule From Taking Effect

U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas holds unlawful and sets aside the FTC final rule prohibiting non-competition agreements with workers. The court entered a final judgment directing that the final rule not be enforced or otherwise take effect and explained that its ruling applies nationwide.

FTC Issues the Final Rule Signaling the End of Fake Reviews

End of “Fake Reviews”? — FTC Issues the Final Rule

The FTC issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (“NRPM”) around fake reviews and testimonials in July 2023. The FTC’s concerns around fake reviews are related to whether the fake reviews are essentially unfair or deceptive practices and therefore misleading to consumers.

United States | Update on H-2B Cap Count for First Half of FY 2025

As of August 12, there are 9,120 pending or approved H-2B petitions filed with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services of the 33,000 available for the first half of the 2025 fiscal year.
USCIS is currently accepting H-2B petitions for employment start dates on or after Oct. 1, 2024, that are subject to the cap count

IL Human Rights Act to Regulate AI in Employment Decisions

Illinois Prohibits Discriminatory Artificial Intelligence in Employment Decisions

On August 9, 2024, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed HB 3773 into law, amending the Illinois Human Rights Act (IHRA) to expressly regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for employment decisions.

HB 3773 is the second Illinois law that regulates workplace AI.
